Chief Mabhikwa burial today

CHIEF Mabhikwa, born Vusumuzi Khumalo from Lupane, Matabeleland North province will be buried today at his rural home in Jotsholo.

Mabhikwa (28) died on admission at St Luke's Hospital in Lupane after his car was hit by a haulage truck at the 195km peg along Bulawayo- Victoria Falls road on Sunday night.

The accident occurred just 6km from his homestead in Jotsholo.

Indications are that the accident happened at around 10pm and the chief was taken to the hospital hours later but died on admission after losing a lot of blood.

Government has accorded Mabhikwa a State-assisted funeral.

Family spokesperson, Donald Khumalo said Acting President Constantino Chiwenga will attend the burial.

“It is a State-assisted funeral that will be attended to by the Vice-President. He phoned me today telling me that he will be there at the burial representing the President,” Khumalo said.

Mabhikwa was installed on May 11, 2012 at the age of 18 following the death of his father Edwin.

He is survived by one son.

He was born on September 24, 1993 and attended Jotsholo Primary and Fatima High schools.

Mabhikwa also attended the Herbert Chitepo School of Ideology at the age of 19.
